Behind the Design
Welcome to Behind the Design where I share design tips and tricks to create the coastal home of your dreams. This week I’m sharing the design behind this gorgeous blue and green coastal bedroom. This bedroom has a beautiful coastal color palate, natural textures, and beautiful accents to create a coastal oasis. Let’s get into it!
Coastal Color Palate
Blues and greens are the perfect choice for a coastal bedroom design, as they mirror the natural surroundings, creating a tranquil and peaceful space. Their calming effect promotes relaxation, making them an excellent option for any room, particularly a bedroom. After all, don’t you want to feel a sense of tranquility when you hit the sheets?
Timeless Furniture
- Bed– I love this bed for its timeless traditional design with a modern touch and clean lines. The neutral colors complement the light and airy vibe I’m aiming for, making it a timeless choice. The clean vertical lines from the bed help draw your eye up and the striped wallpaper continues that making the space feel taller.
- Bedside Tables– I love the color and texture of these bedside tables. The clean lines match that of the bed so it feels similar but not too matchy matchy. The hardware is clean and modern and gives it an updated look.
- Rug – Jute, sisal, and seagrass! It’s no surprise that I love a neutral rug made from these natural fibers, bringing in the textures and elements of the outdoors. It’s the perfect backdrop for a coastal bedroom design!
Design tip– Stear clear of matching every furniture piece in your room. Yes, I know they will try to sell you the matching bedside tables and dressers but choosing something different makes your home feel custom and professionally designed.
Swivel chairs– I love swapping a bench for swivel chairs at the end of a bed! I intentionally chose the round swivel option because the rest of the furniture has hard straight lines and this helps to soften the space. It’s so hard to find beautiful patterned upholstered furniture these days and Ballard Designs has gorgeous coastal prints. I went with this green pattern for a pop of color and the pattern creates a nice contrast against the bed.
Coastal Accessories
Last but certainly not least- coastal accessories! The texture of the lamps sets them apart from the bedside table and catches your eye a bit more than something with a smooth texture. They also have the super cute texture of seashells, so fun! For the pillows, I selected colors from the bedside tables and the chair to create a cohesive and harmonious look.
Design tip– Using a mood board is a great way to assess if colors complement each other. With so many shades of blues and greens, it’s surprising how the wrong shade can significantly affect the space. Therefore, try placing them on a board and testing your options before making a decision.
That’s all for this week’s “Behind the Design”. I hope you’ve gathered some tidbits of design inspiration. Feel free to share your thoughts below!
