I’m excited to unveil the design inspiration behind our small coastal bathroom remodel. Given the limited size of the space, I focused on maximizing both design and functionality to create an illusion of openness while ensuring ample storage for both my husband’s and my belongings. I also wanted to add some fun visual interests with a patterned wall paper to really elevate the space. I love the coastal finishes and timeless vibe this bathroom exudes. Coastal Inspired Materials
I envisioned a bathroom that beautifully combines coastal charm with timeless elegance. My design choices consistently focus on selecting materials that feel authentic to the home while providing a fresh, updated aesthetic. This bathroom achieves the perfect balance, creating an updated space that still resonates with the home’s history. Below, I have outlined the tiles and fixtures I selected to bring this vision to life.
- Viviano Oceana Azul Porcelain Hexagon Mosaic Tile – After much deliberation at Floor & Decor, I was consistently drawn to this hexagonal tile featuring a stunning bluish hue and beautiful tan and brown veining. I decided to extend this tile into the shower floor, enhancing the illusion of space in this small bathroom. This is a design trick that keeps the eye moving forward, rather than interrupting it with a different color or pattern.
- Canvas Maiolica White Wall Tile – This white subway tile is a larger size than the standard, featuring a beautifully glazed organic finish that adds depth compared to traditional flat subway tiles.
- Carara Gold Marble – The shower threshold features a beautifully custom cut piece of Carara Gold Marble sourced from a local stone manufacturer. I highly recommend opting for a custom cut piece of marble over traditional tile for the threshold, as it not only maintains a cleaner appearance but also enhances the overall design.
Furniture
The vanity was an easy decision, as we needed ample storage within our limited space. The quality of the Tilford Vanity from Wayfair is outstanding. It’s solid wood and features a beautiful Carrara marble top. I particularly appreciate the spacious storage drawer at the bottom, which comfortably holds my blow dryer and curling iron, while the additional drawers offer more than enough room for all our bathroom essentials.
I immediately fell in love with the Serena and Lily Granada Wallpaper. The sand color beautifully complements the veining in the floor tile, creating a subtle yet striking feature. Check out my Coastal Wallpaper Guide for beautiful and affordable wallpaper options.
I chose the Pottery Barn Pearson Sconce shaded sconce to soften the ambiance and create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Although I usually avoid being overly matchy, I decided to stick with all chrome finishes to maintain a cohesive look. Finally, the rattan mirror added a coastal touch and ties into the gold hue in the palm wallpaper. This one is currently sold out but I linked a similar one here.
Fixtures
I instantly fell in love with the Delta Cassidy collection. While it may be a splurge, the superior quality makes it well worth the investment. I appreciate its classic and timeless design. The height of the Cassidy Faucet is simply stunning, and the Cassidy Shower System adds an elevated touch to the space. The rain shower feature has proven to be worth every penny!
This bathroom may be small, but it’s highly functional and visually appealing. With a few clever design techniques, even a small space can feel more open. I hope you discovered some valuable tips and items for your next bathroom renovation. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
