Sofa Fabric Choices
First and foremost, if you have children, I highly recommend opting for a slipcovered version of your sofa. We’ve washed our sofas countless times due to various spills, and I am incredibly grateful for the convenience that this option provides. I’ve experimented with the basic linen, basketweave, and the Sunbrella Performance Slub Tweed fabrics, each offering unique benefits.
- Linen: This option stands out as the most budget-friendly and is my top recommendation. While the Sunbrella alternative is certainly appealing, linen offers exceptional ease of cleaning, remarkable comfort, and can be washed without significant fading. We’ve spilled a variety of substances on this fabric, and it has consistently proven resistant to staining, showing no signs of damage.
- Basketweave: This fabric adds a wonderful texture to our chair, and I truly love how it feels. However, I would advise against using it for a sofa that receives daily use, as it tends to pile a bit. That said, it has proven to be quite durable and has held up beautifully on our chairs.
- Sunbrella Performance: This premium option is designed to resist stains effectively. Its liquid-resistant fabric repels spills, allowing them to bead on the surface rather than soaking in. We have chosen a neutral color for our living room, and I highly recommend this fabric for those considering a lighter-colored sofa and wanting to minimize staining concerns. In contrast, our linen sofa, which is in a blue shade, makes minor stains less of an issue than they would be on a lighter fabric.

Pottery Barn Comfort Sofa
This piece is my all-time favorite. We have the slipcovered, deep seat option in our TV room, and we’re approaching 10 years with it. While there is some very minor wear and tear, it has held up beautifully, and I have no plans to replace it anytime soon. We chose a deep blue color that is no longer available, but I love the River and Chambray color options they offer now. The deep seat design is perfect for lounging and watching TV. I also highly recommend a curved arm for added comfort in a TV room. I splurged on the down blend cushion option, and honestly, I wouldn’t choose it again; the memory foam would have been perfectly fine.

Pottery Barn York Slope Arm
I absolutely love the design of this sofa. It boasts a contemporary feel that truly elevates your living space. We have it in our formal living room, and I couldn’t be happier with our choice. We opted for the Sunbrella fabric in a beautiful oatmeal color. I highly recommend choosing one large cushion instead of three; it not only looks sleek but is also incredibly comfortable for napping. This sofa is available in several arm styles, and my favorite is the sloped design. It’s cozy, modern, and exudes a coastal vibe that I adore.

Pottery Barn Carmel Sofa
This latest option is one I haven’t had the chance to test yet, but it will undoubtedly be my next purchase once our current ones are ready to be replaced. I love its sleek coastal design. The deep seat is perfect for lounging, watching TV, and napping. Available in both square and roll arm styles, it offers various configurations to seamlessly fit into your living room.
